Aprašymas

The ascendance of white Christian nationalism in contemporary America poses imminent danger to democracy but also a steep challenge to American Christians, argues Carter Heyward, one of America's most prophetic religious and moral voices.

A kind of political apologetics, her book is written as a series of eight "letters" to people who, especially in this critical political moment, are skeptical of the church, whether inside or outside of it: folks like the author who continue to identify as Christian, despite misgivings; folks who've left the church; and folks who are not interested in joining the church but who are most interested in why any justice-loving people choose to be Christian, especially in this our current political situation. Heyward's belief is that skeptics rightly see the liberal church to be too often colluding with white Christian nationalism. Her letters, addressed to actual people, reflect many conversations she has had with friends, colleagues, and family in recent years.

In this very personal work, Heyward's characteristic moral compass and clear writing probe the roots of our present situation while bringing her vibrant theological insights and convictions about God, Christ, and church to encourage and energize resistance, restoration, and transformation to justice-hungry Americans.
